Hyphenated Biennial’s aim is to generate dialogues, solidarity and meaningful collaborations between First Nations and Asian diasporic artists. The program is unfolding in Melbourne’s West, on the lands of the Kulin Nation, on view from Saturday 3 December 2021 to the 9th of April 2022.
An exhibition at The Substation will present 10 new commissions from First Nations and Asian diasporic artists, individually expressing their own life experience and collectively showing ‘relativity to each other as artists, cohabiting in the same site but each with their own perspectives.’ The artists reflect how we have been well positioned, especially in the past two years, to consider our existence and also responsibility in the world.
On the 11th of December you can take in some performance art, and until 16 January 2022 go along to Incinerator Gallery where ‘Garden of Glass’ considers life on and off-screen.
Congratulations to all participating artists who include; Elyas Alavi, Moorina Bonini, Jacob Boehme & Nithya Nagarajan & Kalanjay Dhir, Sab D’Souza, Jacinta Keefe & Ellen YG Son, Jenna Lee, Jazz Money, Ashley Perry & Siying Zhou, Talia Smith, Beth Thornber, Jennifer Ma & David Leupolu.
