Thousands of outstanding artworks, including paintings, prints and sculpture by both emerging and established artists exhibiting across 35 Australian and international art galleries and studios will be on view and for sale at the ‘Affordable Art Fair Sydney’ from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, in the newly designed halls of the Winx Stand at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
With ‘affordable’ being key to the success of the Affordable Art Fair’s long-running presence on the international art scene, including London, Brussels, New York, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Melbourne, the inaugural Sydney showcase is gearing up to present a dynamic suite of artworks for all tastes and budgets starting from $100 up to $10,000, including an outdoor installation of sculptures from ARTPark Australia on the Racecourse lawns.
“Our unwavering mission is to inspire people around the world with art and we are thrilled to be bringing the magic of Affordable Art Fair to Sydney. With many Australians spending a lot of time at home over the past two years, art has helped reinvigorate and reimagine living spaces with pops of colour, bounds of texture and bursts of creativity. This winter, the Fair will provide the perfect opportunity for Sydneysiders to discover thousands of new artists and consult with expert galleries conveniently under one roof,” said Fair Director, Stephanie Kelly Gordine.
Participating Galleries: to name only a few in the mix. Thienny Lee Gallery will present work by artists, such as Wayan Kun Adnyana, Erika Beck, Tony Belobrajdic, Phillipa Butters, Barbara Goldin, Julie Lynch, Ishbel Morag Miller, Leonie Robison, Catherine Stewart, Claire Tozer and Paul Williams, among others in the Winter Group Show; a beautiful collection of contemporary Aboriginal artworks sharing stories of Country and culture by Indigenous artists from across Australia will be on display through Kate Owen Gallery; Sydney-based FEMME art collective will present works by Korynn Morrison, Marie Pol and Rebecca Trajkovski; the newly opened Sketch Collective Gallery in Surry Hills will have a range of new works under $5,000 ready for audiences to explore; Queensland’s The Toowoomba Gallery will bring paintings depicting warm summer vibes, figurative movement, floral still life, abstract expressions, retro delights and various other themes by artists, including Chris Riley, Joanna Davies, Emily Day, Jane Thompson and Leonie McIntosh, among many others. Special events: the NSW Young Talent program designed to give artists under 35 years the chance to exhibit and sell new works to a captured audience presents an exciting array of new work by artists Giorgia McRae, Cat Yenn, Daniel Body, Maya Barnstone and Gabrielle Penfold; and the official ‘Affordable Art Fair Sydney’ charity partner, Crows Nest-based Studio A, will see 100% of the proceeds from their curated selection of artworks go towards supporting the development of new professional pathways for artists living with disability.
Each day, guided tours with Fair Director Stephanie Kelly Gordine will highlight top art picks across all budget spends, and to engage youngsters in creative play and making there will be fun hands-on workshops at the Children’s Art Studio. Entry to the Fair is free for under 16’s when accompanied by an adult.
There is art for everyone! And as well as offering sweet deals for the art loving public and collectors, the ‘Affordable Art Fair’ is also, importantly, an opportunity to help support the artistic livelihoods of individual artists and art collectives in these challenging times.
