A Family Holiday at The Langham, Sydney

The Langham Hotel in Sydney is exceptional for a couple’s getaway or family holiday. Speaking from experience it is a place for romance and keeping the spark alive.

Hotels are variable, some places promise and price for luxury but don’t necessarily deliver.

The Langham taps into ‘quiet luxury’, a guest experience where everything runs smoothly, with friendly and polite service in a considered setting. While it’s an old building, its charm is valued and the place has been kept in great condition. Of course, there are mod-cons; a stunning pool, chic bar, options for pampering and a valet service.

Many moons ago me and my now husband visited for a couples stay-cation, we were new parents and had little time to be away from our nest. The Langham’s luxury meant that we enjoyed every minute. We relaxed and admired the beautiful interiors, room service, and generous rooms.

Now we return as a larger family with a small dog and a network of friends and family we want to catch up with and host. All these years later The Langham retains its grace and value for your dollar. It’s funny to compare the two stays, but I suppose that is the marker of a good hotel. Whatever your needs you will be comfortable.

Back then and now we noticed the thoughtful touches of unique artworks in the rooms, interesting furniture (different across rooms, not uniform or mass produced unlike other hotels). Some rooms open out to balconies, perfect to sit peacefully over a morning coffee or to cheers as the sun sets. One side of the building offers beautiful views of the harbour, the other the bustling city and a view up to Observatory Hill. Our team loved watching the boats and general hubbub out the window. There is no “Greige”, the safe but unremarkable combo of grey and beige, here or matte black accents. The corridors, lobby, social areas, and rooms summon old world glamour but are in no way tired.

Now, time to go outside! It’s so easy to get out and about. Leave with your pup for a walk, once out the door you can quickly land in Barangaroo, The Rocks, Circular Quay, or the CBD. Once your car has been tucked away with valet there’s not much need for it again, there is an array of outdoor dining and bars walking distance, parks, playgrounds, cultural hotspots, and sight-seeing. Public transport by road, rail and ferry is also very accessible. As such it’s realistic to go explore and be back for nap time if need be.

Snacks and amenities can be provided for small dogs and activities or little keepsakes for children can come your way. Over the years we’ve arrived to DIY cookie decorating for children, mini slippers and robes and (amusingly) a doggy-dessert, pink tennis balls, lead; an excellent start to a Sydney family holiday.

This is a family holiday where you won’t compromise on style and experience.
