The Australian Museum in Sydney is host to ‘Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru’ an exhibition of over 130 priceless ancient Andean artefacts such as jewellery, ceramics, and funerary objects and a virtual reality experience. It’s an exclusive opportunity to experience five Incan Empires from more than 3,000 years ago, the story of grand Inca emperor Pachacuti and hold space amongst the most opulent collection of Andean gold to ever travel outside of Peru.
The VR component enables the audience to ‘fly through’ the UNESCO World Heritage Site to explore the Incan city of Mach Picchu, the ticketed show promises 360-degree motion chairs and cutting-edge drone footage (for an additional fee).
The gallery says ‘these priceless treasures illuminate the artistic brilliance and cultural sophistication of ancient Peru, offering fascinating insights into the daily lives, spiritual beliefs and extraordinary achievements of these ancient civilisations.’
You’ll gain insight into Inca engineering, and intimacy. A separate ‘side area’ is planned to showcase erotic ceramic artefacts that illustrate the Andean fascination with natural life cycles, birth and death.
There will also be a series of expert-led talks on several subjects from Incan architecture to archaeoastronomy.
