Maud Page is the first woman to hold the position of Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. Her appointment as the 10th Director ushers in a new era in the gallery’s 154 year history after a competitive international recruitment process. We offer our warm congratulations to Page!

Page has worked at the gallery since 2017 and prior to that was in a senior position at the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) in Brisbane, and before that a lecturer at the University of Sydney.
Having been an important contributor to the AGNSW recent major building works and programming Page told the ABC she is excited to continue enhancing the public’s appreciation of art. She said to the broadcaster;
“I really do think that museums and galleries are social spaces, and I really believe in the civic nature of institutions…I would just love for more people to use it in that way, so that people can walk through our threshold and really see the value of art.”
Michael Rose, President, Art Gallery of NSW Trust said ‘This is exciting news for the Art Gallery. Anyone who knows Maud, knows of her passionate belief in the transformative power of art, her engagement with artists and her strong connections to the other cultural institutions in Sydney and across the state. She will bring all this to her new role.’
In the announcement Rose also thanked departing Director Michael Brand. Rose shared, ‘I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Michael Brand for his tremendous leadership of the Art Gallery since 2012. Michael has led an extraordinary period of change and growth. Under Michael’s leadership, the Art Gallery has undertaken the largest art commissioning program in its history; inaugurated the new Contemporary Projects series for emerging and mid-career Australian artists; delivered the most significant transformation in the institution’s history, the Sydney Modern Project; and achieved record visitation to the expanded art museum. It is an inspiring legacy.’
