Melbourne Design Week is back for its fifth edition with over 100 exhibitions and special events in Melbourne and Victoria. The presentations will run from 23 May to 2 June and speak to the theme ‘Design the world you want.’
Key venues include NGV International, Victorian Pride Centre, 47 Easey Street, Abbotsford Convent, Collingwood Yards and Hanover House. Some shows which pique our interest include Aluminium at Craft Victoria, Migration. Women. Architecture at the Immigration Museum, Ecology in Urban Streetscapes at the Melbourne Town Hall, and the Big Design Market at the Royal Exhibition Building.
Art and design lovers will also delight in the Melbourne Art Book Fair on at the NGV from 23 May to 2 June. There will be an array of stallholders as well as public programming such as talks like The State of Art Publishing and workshops from Intro to Riso Printing to a Concertina Book Workshop. Another exciting arm of the festival is The Australian Furniture Design Award (AFDA), on view at the Stylecraft showroom, which ‘celebrates the most interesting furniture and lighting design being created in Australia today, with a particular emphasis on new design ideas, critical and creative thinking, sustainability, material development and research that explores innovative production processes.’
